Flash Fiction - 'Once Upon A Time' Writing Contest - 'Three Simple Words'

Anne Meade and Susi Holliday, of the wonderful Yearning For Wonderland Blog, regularly host writing competitions for Flash Fiction Once Upon A Time. Here is my entry, at 350 exactly...

Three Simple Words

“I can't do this!” Anna cried to herself, gazing at a picture of that young, handsome man on her computer screen. Max. His perfect blue eyes, and shoulder length blonde hair promised so much, as much as his tender words, shared with her over countless phone calls and emails over the past four months.

“You can, my dear....” came a cheerful reply from behind her.

She turned her head to see Rael, her imaginary friend since childhood, perched on the windowsill with his arms folded as tightly as the black wings on his back. His piercing green eyes seemed to burrow into her soul.

“He's going to say those three simple words, I am certain!”

Anna shook her head angrily, wrenching her gaze from that infuriating idiot. How could a personification of her own inner-thoughts exude such confidence?

“But he hasn't seen the real me, hasn't seen....” Her voice faltered, as she brushed away a strand of brown hair to reveal a deep scar, trailing from the left side of her forehead down to her cheek; her left eye made of glass.

Rael's words stuck in Anna's head as she hurried through the busy town to meet Max for the first time. Her stomach was doing somersaults. How could Rael be so certain of Max's reaction? He was a guy. Guy's went for looks. She'd been bullied all her life because of the scarring, nobody had looked at her twice. Why should that change now? Because she'd told him her life story?

She found him, leaning against a wall outside a coffee shop, his eyes as blue as the sky. Her blood ran cold, and she wanted to turn and run, but too late. He'd seen her. He was already standing before her. His gaze already lingering on that badly-hidden scar.

Okay, she thought, blushing severely, let me down gently...

Then Max's eyes met hers, he smiled a big, broad smile. Then he leaned forward, whispered tenderly into her ear...

“You are beautiful....”

The three simple words she had always wanted to hear.

Another Vlog - Why 80s Doctor Who is Brilliant (More or Less, I Get Rather Side-Tracked)

Basically an excuse to slur Fern Britton...

[NOTE: Where the Caption Says 'Well Of 'Em', it is actually supposed to say 'Well One Of 'Em', I think. Just so you know. Yes. I fail at life. I know!]

- Fan Fiction - 'A New Beginning' - A Drabble -

The charred remains of the Master lay dormant, the pale moonlight revealing him to be no more than an empty, dead shell.

Another figure lurked in the shadows, a slight smile upon his moustached mouth.

“So this is my final destiny…” he muttered, glancing down at his closed fist, which opened to reveal a glowing green ring sitting at the centre of his palm.

“…Or so they thought…”

As he shrank away into the darkness, he laughed with twisted glee, stepping over the corpse of a woman with red fingernails, her body reduced to the size of a child’s doll.

- Fan Fiction - 'Never Play Chess With Yourself' - A Drabble -

Seven moved his pawn carefully across the board.

Six allowed himself a small grin.

Too easy, he thought proudly to himself, He’s no good at all!

Moving his own piece, Six then leant back in his chair, arms folded defiantly, as he announced, “Check!”

“Mate,” was Seven’s unexpected reply, as, seemingly from nowhere, he moved another piece, overthrowing the Queen.

“What?” Six leapt to his feet in shock, appalled at this sudden turn-around.

“Maybe a pie eating contest would be more appropriate for you? You’ve certainly had the practice…”

Seven was slightly unnerved by the look his opponent gave him.

50 Reasons Why 'Time Crash' Is The Most Perfect 8 Minutes of 'Doctor Who' Ever

#6  The 'high-five'. It's such a simple, funny moment that totally sums up each of the Doctors. Tennant's Doctor tries to be cool and 'trendy', despite his barely hidden geekiness, while Davison is completely oblivious to the concept of the 'high-five'. It's a tiny sequence, and utterly hilarious and adorable. Genius!

A Tribute To The Brigadier

Last February, the day after I learned of the sad passing of Doctor Who verteran Nicholas Courtney, I decided to make a tribute video dedicated to the great man. I only have Windows Movie Maker, so the video (like all my others) is terribly rough around the edges. However, it is from the heart, and is now over a year old!

I used the Sabaton song 'The Saboteur', because although explicitly about WWII, the lyrics describe great courage and bravery in the face of danger - a song about a true hero. Just like the Brigadier! The shot near the end of the video, where the Brigadier and Sarah Jane hug, is ever-more poignant since Elisabeth Sladen, too, is sadly no longer with us.

May they both rest in peace.

Yes, this is me, and my first attempt at a video Blog. Warning: It's unplanned. Those who find cups of tea, eyeliner, and the colour black offensive, DO NOT WATCH!
